After establishing themselves at Kothrud, Maddy’s Pasta Bar recently opened its second outlet at Viman Nagar.

Positioning themselves as a budget Italian restaurant option for on-the-go bites, Maddy’s serves ample options across the pizzas and pasta spectrum in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian variants.

And in a way to push that notion ahead, Maddy’s offers an option of mini as well as regular sized portions with veg. pastas starting from as Rs. 60 and chicken from Rs. 75. This offers the customers the option of trying more dishes in limited quantity rather than sharing large portions.

A very convenient option and by the looks of it, a very popular option at Maddy’s.

Recently #TheBTeam was invited for an exclusive tasting by the owner Madhur Jethlia at their new outlet and we were happy to oblige.

A small single shop outlet with 20-25 covers, it’s a relatively small place with a simple décor.

The evening started off with a few mocktails.

Tropical Twist [Rs. 55] – A combination of kiwi and pineapple, I personally didn’t like it much.

7
Tropical Twist

Virgin Mojito [Rs. 55] – Made with mojito mix, mint leaves and lemon topped with loads of ice, it was a decent fare considering that they used ready pre-mix.

8
Virgin Mojito

Snowberry [Rs. 55] – made with litchi and cranberry, it was the best of the lot. Nice flavours of the berries in the drink.

For appetizers, we tried the Garlic Bread with Cheese [Rs. 90]. Served nice and hot, it had some good flavors of the Italian seasonings covered with the cheese.

Pastas

Portuguese (mix) Sauce with Penne [Rs. 110] – A perfect combination of white and red sauce with colored peppers, this one ticked all the boxes for me. A wonderful blend of the tangy tomato and cheese cream sauces.

Chicken Arrabiata Sauce with Penne [Rs. 140] – Tangy and colorful tomato sauce with finely chopped zucchini. In order to normalize and standardize the taste across their locations, Maddy’s use canned tomato puree to make the sauce, so tasted a bit tangy and tart. Could make out the flavor of the canned puree. Opting for standard taste over freshness is their decision and I respect that, however I’d give this one a miss.

Cheesy Alfredo Sauce with Fusilli [Rs. 190] – Creamy white sauce with loads of cheese and olives. The white sauce is made with a blend of Gouda and processed Britannia cheese. I felt the cheese sauce to be a bit too runny however Madhur explained that’s how most of the customers preferred it. Fair enough.

Pesto Sauce with Penne [Rs. 165] – Made with basil, cashew and olive oil blended together, the sauce had a good strong flavor of basil. Topped with black olives, this dish made for a pretty sight and tasted as expected as well. However have never been a fan of pesto sauce and this dish did nothing to change my mind.

Aglio e Olio Peperoncini with Spaghetti and Chicken [Rs. 140] – Fine balance of extra virgin olive oil, garlic, red chilies and olives with nicely cooked spaghetti and chicken chunks however presence of a lot of chili flakes made it little too spicy for my taste.

Veg Lasagna [Rs. 195] – This had alternate layers of minced soya and spinach mushroom topped with loads of cheese and baked in oven. Served in an aluminium foil container, it wasn’t a pretty sight however tasted pretty good.

Veg Lasagna

Maddy’s Herbed Risotto [Rs. 195] had fine Arborio rice cooked in signature tomato and cream sauce with a dash of herbs and olives. The rice was nice and had that al dente bite to it. Perfect tang of the tomato sauce complemented it very well.

We also tried a couple of their fusion pastas on Madhur’s recommendation.

Barbeque Sauce with Spaghetti [Rs. 140] – Spicy, tangy, sweet and smoked flavored sauce served with paneer or chicken. The sauce had some nice balanced flavors and the choice of spaghetti went surprisingly well with it.

Maddy’s Magic Masala with Penne [Rs. 165] – A sauce made with secret ingredients, it keeps you guessing to what makes it so tasty. Loved the flavors of the spicy masala sauce!

Madhur admitted that all the sauces are Indianized as per the customers palette and preferences. Never touting themselves as an authentic Italian place, rather an Indianized twist to it, the sauces certainly seem to toe the corporate mandate.

Pizzas

Chicken Tikka Pizza [Rs. 235] – This has typical chicken tikka pieces strewn over the pizza base with capsicum and onions for company. Nice crunchy base, it had some good flavors.

Classic Veg. Pizza [Rs. 170] had cheese, corn, capsicum and onions. Tasted similar to a homemade pizza with delicious flavors.

Desserts

Choco-walnut Brownie [Rs. 75] – A delicious rich, yummy walnut brownie served hot with chocolate sauce. The brownie tasted amazing all by itself, the chocolate sauce only enhanced the flavors!! Would’ve been even better with a dollop of vanilla ice cream! #ChocoHeaven #YumYum

Chocolate Mousse [Rs. 80] was a dense and rich chocolate folded delicately with cream. Was light and airy and tasted great!
